12 Years
By: Jaylin McCaster (C/O '14)
It took me twelve years years to get myself together.
It took twelve years to find my true friends.
Twelve years to brace myself for the real world.
It took twelve years to find my inner worth.
Twelve years of waking up every morning saying, "Dang, I have to go there again?"
Twelve years remembering the tiniest things that would remain with me forever.
Twelve years of getting up, making my bed, brushing my teeth, putting on that itchy, non- fashionable uniform, skipping breakfast so I won't be late, and then sitting in a desk for seven hours!
It took twelve years of butting heads with overly- stressed teachers, and you know who you are.
Twelve years anxiously waiting for report cards every grading period.
Twelve years of staying up on the phone until four in the morning KNOWING I needed to get ready for class at 6.
Twelve years of finding that one teacher that didn't get on your nerves as much and that you could confide in.
Twelve years laughing with my friends until my stomach begged me to stop.
It took twelve years to look back upon how far I've come.
After twelve years, here I am.
